Laughter in the Next Room is the final instalment of 4 books of autobiography written by Osbert Sitwell. According to George Orwell, “although the range they cover is narrow, [they] must be among the best autobiographies of our time”.

Laughter in the Next Room covers the end of the First World War and the General Strike of the 1920s as well as the Sitwell family and the many famous artists, authors, and society figures of his acquaintance.

Poet and novelist, Osbert Sitwell (1892 – 1969) was the brother of poet Edith Sitwell and Sacheverell Sitwell, the writer and art critic.
